Animal cruelty: Humane Society officials and president arrested

Another sad story hits the headlines in Canadian news today.  Unfortunately, this story revolves around the abuse and mistreatment of animals taken care of by the Humane Society of Toronto.  In a place thought of as a refuge for these animals, images depict cages in states of disgust, animals left to suffer from life threatening diseases and injuries, along with several reports confirming abuse from previous staff.

"Top officials at the Toronto Humane Society and its board of directors have been charged in an ongoing investigation into animal cruelty.

Investigators for the Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (OSPCA) claim the most basic needs of the animals — like food and water — were not being met, and that staff violate veterinary standards.

On Thursday, the provincial society executed search warrants on the headquarters of the Toronto society.

Jamie West, media spokesman for the OSPCA, confirmed that the individuals were arrested Thursday afternoon."

Nature Canada: Save the Polar Bear

I found an email from Nature Canada in my inbox this afternoon asking me if I minded passing this letter along to my friends and family. What better place to share than here, I thought... Check it out, it only takes a minute to share your voice...

I'm concerned about the effect global warming has on polar bears and know that you probably are too. Please join me in signing a letter to the Canadian government calling for immediate action to address global warming and prevent habitat loss for polar bears. You can sign this letter here:

http://www.naturecanada.ca/advocate/global_warming.html

Global warming is melting the polar ice caps, robbing polar bears of the ice floes they need to hunt prey. As the annual sea ice melts, polar bears are forced ashore to spend their summers fasting. If the arctic ice cap continues to melt sooner and form later, polar bears will become too thin to reproduce and they will become extinct by the end of this century.

We can help STOP this before it's too late. Please join me in calling on the Government of Canada to protect the polar bear's habitat and slow the effects of global warming in Canada's treasured Far North!

Why wild horses are in danger - by Jessica A. Tucker - Helium

Happy November 1,

I just completed another article and wanted to share it with everyone...

Please visit the link to view my newest.

Why wild horses are in danger - by Jessica A. Tucker - Helium

Excerpt from article:

"You notice the ground rumbling under your feet as your stand in the wilds of nature admiring the beautiful mountain scenery. You wonder were this powerful feeling could possibly be coming from. As quickly as you can think about it, the rumble gets closer and louder and even more vibrant through the mass of ground you stand on..."

Have a wonderful month, Jessica
